Top-down scrolling shooters have been done, but AirAttack HD Lite does it better. This game combines excellent graphics and killer music to make us yearn for the full version. For the time being, you'll have to make do with only 2 levels of awesomeness.   
The game uses touch input to control your plane. Just tap and drag to move around the level. The game offsets your touch, so the pane appears to fly just in-front of your finger tip. Your craft will be firing continuously, because let's face it, that's what you'd be doing anyway. As you take out enemies on land, sea, and in the air, you can pickup power ups and bonuses from them. The levels aren't just one screen wide, you can actually scroll your view from side to side by flying over to one edge of the screen. This gives you much more room to maneuver in. You can drop a bomb at any time by double-tapping on the screen. 
As you progress through these surprisingly long levels, you will hit checkpoints where you can buy upgrades. One of the most useful is the side plane upgrade. You will get two wingmen that fly alongside you, firing all the time. They stick around until you run out of health and have to burn a life. You can also buy extra lives or cannon upgrades. As you destroy more enemies, more upgrades will be available to you.  
The graphics are excellent in this game. The models and textures are really top notch, and we aren't even seeing any slowdowns from too much action on the screen. When you take out an enemy, they don't just blow up all the time. There are different death animations for each unit. Some planes might spin out of control, and a blimp might catch fire. Even moving your own plane is done elegantly; it doesn't just glide across the screen, but looks like it is banking. This lite version of the game is great fun, and should keep you occupied until the full version appears.    
The style of the game is simple and easy, but requires some skill to kill all enemies and avoiding enemy fire.

KNOWN ISSUES:
- On Nexus S on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), there are random crashes. this is caused by OS bugs, and it's been fixed with the latest version of Gingerbread, please upgrade the OS to 2.3.3

1. Extract the Rockband.zip contents.
2. Place the RockBand folder into your SD Card.
3. Place the ca.jamdat.flight.rockband folder into sdcard/data/data
4. Enjoy.

NOTE
You must unzip the Rockband.zip using your PC, if you use your phone it will not extract all the files needed.
Extra Notes:
Here's the specific details of what I did (following the instructions in the link gamerspowers provided) to get the full version working on my Galaxy S:

1. Download both files
2. Extract Rockband.rar and copy the 2 folders (RockBand and com.jamdat.flight) to my external SD card first
3. Placed the rockband.apk on my external sd as well
4. Via Root Explorer app, I installed rockband.apk
5. Still via Root Explorer app, I moved the RockBand folder to internal SD
6. Still via Root Explorer app, I moved the com.jamdat.flight folder to data/data/app (deleting the old one first)

There you have it! Full RockBand. I really wish there were on the market..I'd be willing to buy it for updates and such but it's pretty good as is. Multi-touch yay!
You have to DELETE the previous ca.jamdat.flight.rockband in /data/data/ and then copy the other one in its place, not just overwrite it!
